I joined as a volunteer to support the village cleaning in Watamu with members of the Watamu Marine Association (W.M.A). They use some of the waste materials to be useful again. The local ladies use the waste papers for making baskets as shown by Jane Spilsbury from the WMA in the pic below. If you go to Watamu please purchase a bag to support the local community. It was a really good day and enjoyed by all.

Jambo everyone

I went to snorkeling and Mida Creek tour with some tourists from Turtle Bay Hotel and it was brilliant.

I went with some clients to the Turtle Watch Group to see some sick turtles which are being treated and when they recover they take them to the beach of Turtle Bay Hotel for the releasing. Many tourists enjoy it.

The weather is very hot here with a lot of humidity because of some few showers [rains]. As a change of wind direction from north to south a lot of sea weeds have been swept away and buried under thus making the beaches clean with brilliant white sand which makes it to be attracting.

Looking forward to a good Christmas and New Year as I have some good friends coming over from England to visit.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas!

Jambo everyone

We went on safari with Ian, Margaret and their son Conor on the 1st of September and had a good time and saw lots of animals. Unfortunately I lost my camera phone the day before so could not take any photos but my friends have let me use theirs until i can get another. Thank you very much to those of you that have allowed me to use your photos for my blog.

While I was away I had another 3 clients from Turtle Bay Hotel. 2 clients went 2 days safari to Tsavo East National Park with Tomas and 1 client went 3 days safari to Tsavo East and Amboseli National Park with another one of my professional guides. They were lucky enough to spot some lions seated near the road side.

The Red Elephant

The Turtle Bay beach is becoming clean again after having big loads of seaweeds which is now being dragged back to sea for turtle food.

The profits from my safaris have finally paid for my windows in my house, the rooms divided for my children and a cement floor.

I will be enjoying crops from my land especially bananas very soon. Sorry for the poor quality of the photo but I thought you may like to see our bananas

Thank you to everybody for promoting Kingi Safaris and my family it is great for us.

I have had a very busy August which has been great as I have met many people who have become freinds. I went with 11 clients from Turtle Bay Hotel to snorkelling and Mida Creek with the barbecue at the Mangroves Island and as you can see the lobster was wonderful. I did share it by the way

I went 2 days safari to Tsavo East National Park with 11 clients from Turtle Bay Hotel. We saw many animals today including a cheetah with 3 cubs. We also saw this cheeky monkey taking it easy........

dsc00454 (small).jpg

The lions often stroll across the road in front of excited visitors.
dsc00447 (small).jpg

There was a storm in Watamu 2 weeks ago which did quite a lot of damage both on the beach and in the village. The storm swept away many trees down the beach and did damage at the beach of Turtle Bay.

dsc00429 (small).jpgThe beach shower and many beach umbrellas were swept away by the storm. But everything has been repaired and now back to normal.

This Monday I am going on 3 days safari with some clients of Turtle bay Hotel to Tsavo East and Amboseli National Park so I will try to get some good photos to share with you.

Bye for now

July 2010 News

Hi everyone

On 26th June I went on 2 days safari  to Tsavo East with 2 clients of Turtle Bay Hotel. We saw a group of lions seated only about 7metres from us.

imgp1048 (small).jpg

dsc00376 (small).jpg

On 29th June I went 3 days safari to Tsavo East and Amboseli with a family from Turtle bay Hotel. We saw the Mt Kilimanjaro very clearly and it was very lovely indeed.

dsc00388 (small).jpg

We also went snorkelling in the marine park and then onto Mida Creek with some tourists of Turtle Bay Hotel and had a barbecue which included lobster, octopus soup, chicken, fish and coconut rice.

dsc00389 (small).jpg

With the Watamu Marine Association helped by the school children we volunteer ourselves in making the beaches clean every week. Removing all the plastic materials from the beach thus making our environment clean. This also gives a room for the sea creatures and nesting turtles.

If you would like to look at the Kibo Safari Camp you can click here.

There have been storms and strong winds in Watamu this month. Below is Turtle bay Hotel view from the beach. They blocked the strong winds by building the wind breakers.

Below you can see photos of when we visited the Watamu Bio-Ken Snake Farm. This is the Rhinocerous Viper and the Tiger Snake which is non poisonous.

May 2010 News

Hello everyone

I have had a very exciting May as I was given the opportunity to visit some good friends in Italy for sightseeing, improving my Italian language and promoting Kingi Safaris. So it is like a dream and I see every day here as a beautiful day.

We decided to go to a town called Verona. Really there are beautiful places on earth and its unbelievable....

Me and the Milan cathedral called Duomo

Tourists love to touch the bronze for good luck

Me and Scala Theatre, one of the most famous theatres in the world

Me and the Milan Castle

I am in a helicopter

Arena of Verona and behind me there are some gladiators

Verona; Me and Juliet without Romeo. Since Romeo was not there I took advantage of the situation and took a picture with a lonely Juliet.

Under the balcony of Juliet, where she used to kiss with Romeo.

I am in one of Verona squares and behind me you can see the statue of Dante, one of the most famous and important italian poets.

Hello Everyone

The Wildman Triathlon organised by the Turtle Bay Hotel entertained many people this month. Many guests and the village people participated and some won some cheques, air tickets to and fro Nairobi and others 3 days buffet in the Turtle Bay Hotel.

The manager of the Turtle Bay Hotel also participated in the competition which was swimming, cycling and running and did very well.

The Ocean Sports Hotel was closed from 18th to 28th April. The beach is covered by a lot of sea weeds and the sea is very rough with strong currents and the fishing boats are not going out anymore for fishing. Some boats were docked at Captain Andy’s place at the creek for repairs waiting for the other fishing season.

Kingi Safaris is now on Facebook if you would like to join us.

At the moment it is very hot but we have very few tourists. Some of the hotels will be closed for quite a long time like the Bluebay Hotel and others for a short time like Ocean Sports and Turtle Bay Hotel.

Jambo everyone

We are very happy as we have been very busy this month with lots of clients wishing to do very different things and would like to thank you all for supporting us and the local community.

We went to Gede Forest (or Arabuko Sokoke Forest) with two clients of Turtle Bay Hotel, Caroline and her friend. We passed by the swamp to see the elephants but were already gone, so went up the tree house to see if we can spot them. We managed to spot the Golden Elephant Shrew.

 treehouse (small).jpg

We climbed the boardwalk at Mida Creek.

And went with a canoe inside the mangrove forest to watch some birds and there were many ibises and flamingoes.

We went on a 2 nights and 3 days safari to Tsavo East and West with Solo Group of Turtle Bay Hotel. Sarah, Val, David, Alex and others. The landscaping in Tsavo West, the Mzima Spring and the rhino sanctuary makes the Park to be more attracting. We saw the Big Five animals except rhino.

We went with Roger and Margaret on a 2 days safari to Tsavo East and saw the big five animals. We visited the Masai village which is very interesting.

We also had a 1 day trip with the same ladies to Mida Creek Tour with barbecue and watched the flamingos with Chris and Lisa also.

They are building a new seating area at Mida Creek.

The opening of the Watamu Dispensary enabled the people of Watamu to get cheap medication and also gives free HIV counselling and HIV tests. Now the community wants to expand it by contributions so that they can build wards.

The camel now has been hired part time by the Turtle Bay Hotel and the Blue Bay Hotel in the Christmas Day to take round the children at the beach. So it's funny riding the camel on this great Day. It has special decorations on Christmas Day.

The unsuspected big tide swept all the palm trees down the Turtle Bay Hotel leaving a deep steep ridge. It is a big wonder because it has been a long time since such a thing to happen. That's why the hotel hung red flags down the beach to show tourists that there is danger.

The September rains [showers] makes the weather to be hot with a lot of humidity and also makes the sea water to be calm, to provide a nice season for fishing and dolphin watching.

That's all for now.

The building of the small bridge from Aquarius Hotel to the Lily Palm Beach Hotel is to reduce the harrassment of tourists by the boys who have no associations. It was also built for those tourists who want to be in peace. It has a nice appearance.

Also the building of the new hotel which borders the Mapango restaurant on the beach has a beautiful look.

The Watamu beaches are now becoming clean because of the strong currents which bury the seaweeds deep in the sand leaving the beaches clean like the beaches of Turtle Bay and Ocean Sports.

Nowadays at the beach of Ocean Sports are some boys who gives out surfing lessons to tourists at good prices. They have their Flag labelled F on the beach and a board showing the prices.
